Ahead of the crucial wedding season commencing Nov, Indore’s prominent Siyaganj market, a hub for wholesale and retail grocery establishments, has witnessed an escalation in demand.
Notwithstanding the escalation in prices of edible oils, pulses, grains and numerous other commodities, consumption has intensified and is anticipated to amplify further, said traders of Siyaganj market, anticipating enhanced business compared to the previous wedding season in the corresponding period.
“Purchases have intensified due to heightened demand in the impending wedding season. Caterers have initiated bulk orders whilst individual purchases have likewise increased. Considering the orders, we are anticipating at least 8-10 per cent enhancement in business this season,” said a trader from Siyaganj market Vasudev Malu.
Traders estimate that Indore’s sugar consumption is projected to escalate by 8-10 per cent from the current level of around 6000 tonne per day during the wedding season.
They indicated that prices in the edible oil segment have surged by Rs 300-400 per 15 litre, ghee by Rs 70 per kg, wheat flour by Rs 150 per 30 kg and pulses by Rs 10 per kg within a month.
According to traders, soybean oil is valued at Rs 2,130 per 15 litre as opposed to Rs 1,600 per 15 litre a month ago, ghee at Rs 530 per kg versus Rs 470 per kg, wheat flour at Rs 1,300 per 30 kg compared to Rs 1,100 per 30 kg.
“Prices of grocery items are anticipated to escalate further during the wedding season owing to heightened demand during this period. Despite elevated prices of grocery items, purchases remain robust and may intensify further,” said Pushpendra Natani, a trader from Siyaganj.
Siyaganj, one of Indore’s oldest kirana markets, accommodates nearly 500 shops.
