India has long been a reliable partner for the UK in the textile and apparel sector. In 2023, India’s exports to the UK reached USD 1.2 billion, capturing a 6.14% share of the UK’s textile market. Additionally, ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the UK saw a 9.4% increase during the April-October 2024-25 period, compared to the same period last year, highlighting positive growth, the AEPC Chairman added.
The roadshow brought together over 100 key figures from renowned brands, retail chains, and research bodies within the fashion industry. Notable attendees included Shubhra, Trade Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Premal Udani, Chairman, Export Promotion Committee, AEPC; and Roger Gilmartin, Senior Associate at Gherzi Consulting.
In her address, Shubhra highlighted the transformative growth of India’s textile industry, driven by government initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and PM MITRA Parks. She also noted the shared values of sustainability between India and the UK, which create a strong foundation for further cooperation.
Delegates also met with Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswamy, to discuss trade, joint ventures, and the potential for a free trade agreement. The discussions underscored a strong interest from UK textile players to deepen their engagement with India’s textile industry.
