The Ministry of Coal is set to launch the 11th round of commercial coal mine auctions on Thursday (December 5) in New Delhi, spearheaded by Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy. Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and the Secretary of Coal Vikram Dev Dutt will also be present at the event.

This round includes 27 coal blocks distributed across various states. Out of these, 20 coal mines — 10 fully explored and 10 partially explored — are open for bidding. Additionally, seven coal mines from the 10th round’s second attempt, comprising four fully explored and three partially explored blocks, will also be on offer. All blocks feature non-coking coal.
The auction also marks a strategic leap towards atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in the coal industry, a release by the Coal Ministry stated. Key reforms include eliminating eligibility restrictions, transitioning to the National Coal Index for pricing, and simplifying mine operationalisation through the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal.
During the event, the ministry will execute agreements for nine coal mines, anticipated to generate ₹1,446 crore in annual revenue and create over 19,000 jobs at peak capacity. Agreements from the 10th tranche will also be handed over to successful bidders. The auctions will follow an online, transparent process based on the percentage revenue share model.
