The list also revealed that the number of donors has more than doubled in the past five years. In 2024, the number reached 203, up from 100 in 2019 and 119 in 2023, indicating a growing trend of charitable giving among India’s wealthy.

However, despite the surge in the number of donors, the average donation amount has seen a decline. The average donation, which peaked at ₹140 crore in 2021, has dropped to ₹43 crore in 2024, down from ₹71 crore in 2023.

Meanwhile, over the last five years, cumulative donations in the EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024 grew by almost 100% and 3.8 times since 2017.
One of the more significant trends in the report is the change in the cut-off amounts for the top-ranking philanthropists. The “Top 50 cut-off” has risen slightly, from ₹24 crore in 2023 to ₹25 crore in 2024.
In contrast, the “Top 100 cut-off” has decreased, dropping from ₹14 crore in 2023 to ₹11 crore in 2024, suggesting that the bar for entering the top 100 has lowered.
