The 55th GST Council meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday (December 21) announced that gene therapy has been fully exempted from the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The Council also decided to extend the GST exemption for the Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM) system. The relief applies to systems, sub-systems, equipment, tools, and software essential for LR-SAM development and operation.
“…gene therapy which is very critical for life-saving diseases has been exempt. Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LR-SAM) system is very important in defence. We have decided to extend the GST exemption which is provided to systems, sub-systems, equipment, tools, software. The exemption is further extended,” Nirmala Sitharaman said.
